How do I sign up for a class?
Please use the ‘contact us’ button giving details about which class you are interested in. We will then contact you to arrange a start date. To enrol with us, you will be asked to complete both an enrolment form and a consent form.
How much do classes cost and how do I pay?
Classes are paid by the term in advance. However, we understand, particularly with young dancers, you may want to pay-as-you-go for the first few weeks before moving onto paying by the term. As of September 2024, all 45 minute sessions are £7. Senior grades and sessions over 45 minutes are priced accordingly.
Our adult classes are £28 per 4 week term or £8 pay-as-you-go.
Terms must be paid in advance, and no later than 7 days from the date of the invoice, to ‘book’ the child/student’s place in the class. This helps with commitment, guarantees numbers in the class and is particularly important when the group are working towards examinations or performances.
- There is no reduction for missed weeks e.g. holidays, parties, trips and short illnesses.
- Pupils who are absent for long periods of time due to illness, injury or extended holidays over 3 weeks will be considered for a discount at the principal’s discretion.
- For students who attend three or more graded classes per week, a 10% discount is made. Street Dance, Technique and Adult classes are not classed as graded classes.
- Class fees are based on school term dates and we close for school holidays.
- Payments for classes can be made by cash or online. Payment details can be found on your invoice.
- Fees may subject to change and we will notify you a minimum of one term in advance of any increase in fees.
- If a class is cancelled it will be refunded the following term
Do I leave my child at class?
For the first couple of weeks, parents or carers may want to stay to see what goes on in the class and meet the teacher. Once your child is settled, you can leave your child or stay in the nearby waiting area. We have regular watching weeks so you can see how your child is progressing.
What does my child wear?
Please check the Uniform page for the various class uniforms. If in doubt, please use the contact us form and we will get back to you with the information.
Where do I park?
There is a large car park at the rear of Nortex Mill. Entrance to Bolton School of Dance is at the side of the Factory Shop. The car park is controlled by Parking Eye and you will need to register your car once in the building. This gives you free parking for the time of your visit.
Do you have performance opportunities?
Yes! We hold regular shows where every student has the chance to perform on stage. Throughout the year we participate in the Bolton Dance Festival and often get involved in community events. Most years we host an annual Charity Evening providing great opportunities for different groups to perform and do what they enjoy, whilst raising money for good causes.
What syllabus/awarding body do you you teach?
Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. The I.S.T.D is an international dance teaching and examination board based in London and is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the Council for Dance Education and Training and is also a member of the British Dance Council.
BSD hold regular examination sessions for children from 5yrs old throughout the school year. Exams are not compulsory, however they are a great way of rewarding hard work and assessing a child’s progress as part of their dance classes. You can find more here: The benefit of I.S.T.D Examinations
What about photographs and use of social media?
At Bolton School of Dance there will be times when photos or digital images are used for promotional purposes on the official school website or on our social media pages. Smartphones are a wonderful tool for teaching and learning. Pupils and teachers may on occasion use digital technology to record evidence of dance routines and exercises as a learning aid; digital/video images may then be used to rehearse the dance movements at home.
Please note that teachers, external photographers and companies who are invited to take photographs or record images have the necessary vetting.
On enrolment, you will be asked to complete both an enrolment form and a consent form. By giving your permission on the consent form, you will give consent for Bolton School of Dance to use both hard-copy and digital images (including video) in accordance with how you have completed the permission form.
